Getting Listed on Internet Directories
Internet directories are, for want of a better description, the online equivalent of the Yellow Pages, where websites are listed by subject category & designed for visitors to browse through. Listing fees vary widely so it is important to have a well developed idea of whom your target audience are before spending money on them. Although their importance as part of a website’s marketing campaign may be seen as lessened with the appearance & growth of social media channels [Twitter, LinkedIn etc], a solid core of listings can still be beneficial to any business.
Traditionally, being listed in the large international directories [DMOZ, Yahoo etc] was considered to be very important for any website. However, these directories have become so large that individual listings can easily be lost in the crowd. Increasingly, national, local and specialist directories are growing in importance, this reflecting the increased sophistication of the average internet user.
Visualeze can provide a full consultancy service for submitting to internet directories and provide a written study where required analysing the options available, taking into full consideration the budget and target audience of the individual client.
To provide an example, below are some web directories that a London based design business like mine might seek listings in [and, in fact, have]. Note that some of these link back to the originating site, this can often be a requirement for being listed in a directory, especially where there is no fee payable.
